So today, I decided to go back to the hospital for a follow up but I decided to go to a different hospital this one was Tempe St. Lukes, this one had a more dated feel to it but the staff was really great. The thing I've noticed about Banner hospitals is that they like to tell you what you want to hear. I don't want anything but the truth so this time I am around 5 weeks 6 days along so we did some blood work and my HCG levels doubled nicely! I am now up to 72,000 which I thought was amazing! I googled because that number seemed very high and I realize that some have levels of only a few thousand and some have levels into the hundred thousands at this stage so I was pretty confident in my levels.
On to the ultrasound the tech started with an abdominal ultrasound which showed just the Gestational Sac which was measuring about 6w 1d. but the tech drops this on me, well it looks like you're having another miscarriage because the sac is kind of flat, so he sends me out of the room to go pee so we can get ready for the trans-vaginal scan, at this point I've texted my prego buddy and my boyfriend to let them know it was over.. devastated of course. So we get ready for the second scan and he turns the screen towards me and shows me what he's doing. He says, "never mind what I said before I'm sorry." and proceeded to show me where my soon to be baby was, along with the most beautiful flickering light I've ever seen which was my little baby's heart flickering away at 99bpm. Of course I started to cry because I was so happy to hear that my little one already had a heartbeat and could share it with us at just 5 weeks along. With our last pregnancy our little one had a heartbeat at 8 weeks of just 85 which was really low and had a 0% chance of making it. This time, 99 sounds low but the tech & the doctor said that it isn't something to stress over because it is not often that we can even see a heartbeat at 5 weeks & that it will increase 3.3 bpm every day! I scheduled an appointment with my OBGYN for Monday the 21st for our first actual prenatal visit!
